Congratulations to St Blazey Recycle Reuse Resale CIC!

The St Blazey Recycle Reuse Resale community interest company, which has not yet had their doors open for a year, is a finalist for Best New Business in Cornwall in the Cornwall Business Awards.

The not for profit collects good furniture and household items from four of the SUEZ run household waste recycling centres in Cornwall and sells them cheaply to families on low incomes or donates items to residents in need. Last year, SUEZ donated a large box van with a tail lift to the shop in order to help facilitate collections and deliveries.

The initiative has now diverted 100 tonnes of household items from landfill or energy recovery, helping to furnish many homes for families in crisis.

Within the first few months of opening their shop in Middleway, St Blazey, it became apparent that this initiative was much needed and its growth has been phenomenal.

Director, Pauline Giles, said: “We outgrew our first shop so quickly, we weren’t able to stock large furniture and white goods, which families needed. Last month we moved into a warehouse on Latham Park, behind our old shop, its huge, we have an emporium! Everyone is really excited about the expansion and what comes next.”

In August, a commercial kitchen and community café will be unveiled and, in September, Pauline will start running NVQ-level cooking courses for the unemployed and young parents in order to assist them in finding work.

The shop is open from Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 3pm and everyone is welcome. Goods can be donated at both the household waste recycling centre and the shop.
