Community and environmental improvement projects

The government taxes every tonne of waste that's sent to landfill sites and a proportion of the money raised goes into the Landfill Communities Fund.

In Cornwall, this funding is distributed by the SITA Cornwall Trust. It goes towards community projects in the county, such as repairing a village hall or church.

The trust was launched in 2008 and allocates the funds raised by landfill sites that we operate – however, it is an entirely independent organisation with its own board of trustees.

For more information, please visit the SITA Cornwall Trust website.

Community trust

The St Dennis and Nanpean Community Trust manages the community funding provided by Cornwall Council and the Cornwall energy recovery centre in the designated area of benefit for the lifetime of the facility.

The trust is a registered charity and welcomes funding applications from local community groups, voluntary organisations and individuals. It has a grant panel which meets monthly to review applications. To apply for funding, please visit the trust’s website.
